I lay under you today
It had been years.
Last time you were thinner, unstable.
You offered no protection.
It was long before my life happened
Long before I grew circles.
Now as I lie under you.
You cover me over and I feel safe.
As you have grown so have I.
You may be shady
But the light still filters through.
As the wind blows
I see you've grown solid roots
Just like me.
And that every season you alter
As I do.
But where one day I will fade
You will remain.
Your branches whispering
My memory to the sky.
