Why didn’t you wait until summer ?
When my legs are bare and can wrap around you.
Why didn’t you wait until heat left us replete?
Until sweat dripped from your brow to my lips
And the smell of cut grass wafted through windows
While crickets chirped in the dusk.
Summer is where we could have been happy.
Where the sweetness of strawberries would meld our tongues
And dry air would cleanse our lungs.
The sheen of our lust would be seen from space.
We would be stars on earth
Too bright for those around us
I may love Fall
But summer would see us rise.
We would be grounded no longer
Summer would make us stronger.
