Cactus

Come find me in the night

The pulsing  core of me will guide you.

The heat of my want will tantalize your skin

I am cactus and you a weary traveler.

Lost.

Eat me.

Eat my fruit.

Feast on my goodness and let propriety be damned.

And when the scorching sun comes up

You will have the energy to continue.

My home is here. I will stay.

Nothing but dunes on my horizon

Will you try to find me again?

I may be prickly to look at

But my essence is smooth as the sands

Worn away by desert winds.
