I told myself all these years
That you had no choice
You had to live farther away
Life made it that way.
I told myself you loved us all
That me finding it difficult when you were here
Was somehow my fault.
Then one day I realised
You wanted it so.
You chose to go
Or to stay.
Either way.
Who cares now?
My childish presumption that you would like us there
Is nothing more than a dream.
It now floats like mist over a grey sea.
Farther and farther.
Father.
The distance between us grows
And I cannot build that ship.
I can only paddle.
And you won’t swim.
(c) Slumpless
There’s something endearingly frank and to the point about this poem – I can hear it’s words being said. Wise too. Thanks for sharing 🙂 Harula x
